Where it comes from
In 2022, researchers from the University of Tokyo & Google added one line to math questions: “Let’s think step by step.”
On one arithmetic test, accuracy jumped from 17.7% to 78.7%. They called it zero-shot chain of thought.
Today many models reason on their own before answering, so the magic words matter less than they did.
